What is coaching?

We’ll meet regularly—usually weekly or biweekly—in private, one-on-one sessions over video. I bring warmth, nonjudgment, clarity, and the occasional dad joke. Every session is tailored to you; there’s no fixed template. We’ll explore what you need to prioritize wellbeing and make healthy, aligned choices.

A key element of our work will be building your personal "Life Blueprint", a clear snapshot of your goals, values, needs, and priorities—to guide you beyond our time together.

How many sessions would I need?

I typically work with clients across 6–12 sessions, but it’s always driven by your needs. We can start with one session to get a sense of what would be helpful—and adjust from there. Occasionally returning for booster check-ins? That’s welcome too.

What coaching is not....

  • It is not therapy—though I am a psychotherapist by training, coaching is distinct and not regulated in the same way.

  • It is not crisis support. If you’re in immediate danger or crisis, please reach out to local emergency resources right away.

Why choose Chess as your coach?

I keep my coaching practice intentionally small so each person receives depth and thoughtful attention. I bring insights drawn from personal lived experience—betrayal, estrangement, complex trauma—and a broad professional background, including a career in corporate finance, a PhD in earth sciences, teaching, wilderness guiding, and psychotherapy training.

Payment and Cancellation

Each individual session is $150 CAD for a one-hour private video call. I personally manage all bookings to ensure each client receives focused attention, so please contact me below to check availability and wait times.

To secure your session, full payment is required at least 24 hours in advance. This helps guarantee your spot and allows me to plan our time together thoughtfully. Sessions booked more than 24 hours in advance can be rescheduled or refunded if needed (minus a 5% processing fee to cover transaction costs).

If payment is sent without confirming availability, and we are unable to schedule, a refund will be issued minus a 20% administrative fee. This ensures we can manage scheduling efficiently and fairly for all clients.

Cancellations within 24 hours of the appointment, or no-shows, are non-refundable.

Is it worth it?

Coaching is an investment—not just financially, but emotionally and energetically. My clients often tell me the clarity, safety, and momentum they gain are invaluable compared to anything cheaper or less tailored. I also know coaching isn't accessible to everyone, which is why I offer no-cost support through my YouTube videos and blog.

Do you do family sessions?

Occasionally, yes — on a case-by-case basis. My main focus is individual coaching, because that’s often where the most meaningful change begins. However, in some situations, it can be helpful to bring in a family member for a joint session.

If we decide together that a family session makes sense, please note:

  • Family sessions are offered only after some individual work has been done.

  • They are priced differently from individual sessions (please ask me for details).

  • Everyone involved must agree to show up respectfully and with the intention of listening, not just defending.

I’ll always be honest with you about whether I think a joint session would be useful or potentially harmful.

I'm interested! What next?
